Ghana Psychological Association

A community of dedicated professionals committed to advocating the science and practice of Psychology in Ghana, promoting mental health and wellbeing, enhancing psychological research and education, and advancing the rights of every individual.

Our membership spans every discipline of psychological science: clinical, counselling, educational, industrial-organisational, forensic, health, community, and neuropsychology, among others, as well as related fields including guidance and counselling, social work, and para-professional practice.


International Affiliations

GPA is affiliated to American Psychological Association (APA), International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), and Pan-African Psychology Union (PAPU), connecting Ghana's psychology community to the global family of national psychological associations. This membership reflects GPA's commitment to advancing psychological science on the world stage and upholding internationally recognised ethical standards for the profession.

OUR VISION

To stimulate professionalism, dignity, insight and creativity in contextually-relevant practice, research and teaching of Psychology in Ghana and on the African continent.

To become a member of the Ghana Psychological Association (GPA), an individual must be either a student or a professional in the field of Psychology (including all specializations) or Social Work. For professionals, membership registration with the GPA requires prior licensure by the Ghana Psychology Council (GPC). Once licensed, the individual may proceed with GPA membership registration. For students, membership registration is direct and does not require licensure by the Ghana Psychology Council.

Professional members with outstanding contributions to the practice, research and teaching of psychology, proposed by the council/ division.
Conferred  (Ghanaian,  psychologist,  member  or  otherwise)  if  one  has  rendered  distinguished  service  in promoting the  objectives of GPA nominated by a member/executive
2nd Degree holders (MPhil., MSc., MA) & PhD, Psy.D
Comprises Pastors, lay counselors & any other persons designated as lay professionals by the GPC.
Conferred to 1st degree in related areas of psychology or other behavioural sciences deemed appropriate.
Postgraduate and undergraduate studies in psychology & allied disciplines (approved by GPC).
Persons living abroad & members of an acknowledged foreign psychological association and/ or who can provide proof of qualifications in the field of psychology as required by the association.
